Culinary Adventures from the horn of Africa

Three weeks ago some friends tried out an Ethiopian restaurant called the "Queen of Sheba". The decor is festive, the food is wonderful and they have historical picture books...what more could one want in a culinary adventure?

One of the best parts of the night was dessert. Of course that would be one of the best parts for my sweet-craving self. It was a simple fried chips covered in honey. Sort of like a fried baklava, but less sweet and far easier to share.

Loving to bake, I thought it would be fun to find more simple desserts from the horn of Africa.

So I tried to make Qumbe (Somali Coconut Squares)-the picture above is of my attempt.

It seemed like an African version of Rice Krispie Treats, just minus the krispie.
